Essentially, they’re allowing him to recover from Tommy John surgery this year in hopes of getting him back on the field next year. He had the Tommy John alternative surgery which still carries the name but also includes an internal brace. A victim of a UCL injury which ultimately led to Tommy John surgery, it’s probably the last we’ll ever see of him with the Mets.
