Through the Alliance, businesses will collectively support a joint purchase of certificates which support the production of tonnes of low-carbon cement and concrete.
“This system enables buyers to financially support sustainable production, regardless of where the materials are used, offering flexibility and scalability in decarbonization strategies,” the Alliance stated.
The Centre’s president and CEO, Kim Carnahan, said: “The Sustainable Concrete Buyers Alliance’ builds on proven approaches from other hard-to-abate sectors, bringing aggregated buyer demand to the concrete industry.
“We need to be paying more attention to policy levers that stimulate demand,” Mission Possible Partnership CEO Faustine Delasalle told edie.
