EUDR is regarded as one of the world’s most progressive regulations to disincentivise deforestation in agri-product supply chains. EUDR was originally due to start being enforced from 30 December 2024 for large businesses, and 30 December 2025 for micro and small businesses. As such, the Commission has had more than two years already to prepare for the EUDR launch. Representatives for the European People’s Party (EPP), the centre-right faction which holds the majority in the European Parliament, have already stated that they would prefer to weaken the Directive. The EU has promised to reduce reporting obligations by 25% for large private firms and 35% for SMEs.
