California’s governor has signed into law a measure banning most law enforcement officers, including ICE agents, from wearing face coverings that conceal their identities during official operations. Governor Gavin Newsom said the law was a response to complaints from immigrant communities that masked agents create fear, reduce accountability, and erode trust. Shortly after the law was signed, Tom Homan, often referred to as “Border Czar,” appeared on The Laura Ingraham Show on Fox News and declared that ICE will not comply with the mask ban. He argued that the law is unconstitutional and that ICE agents need the ability to protect their identities for safety reasons. The Department of Homeland Security called the law “unconstitutional” and raised concerns about doxxing and threats to agent safety.
