Since the International Space Station came to fruition in 2000, there hasn’t been a single day when we didn’t have human beings up in space. But in fact, there are two operating facilities in orbit, with the other being China’s Tiangong Space Station. The International Space Station is scheduled for a controlled reentry over the Pacific in 2031 which will destroy the aging facility. It has been the longest lasting of any space station ever built: over 9,500 days in orbit. The third of the series, called simply Tiangong Space Station, was launched on April 29, 2021.
