- Advertisement -Prime Minister Gaston Browne wasted little time diving into a packed schedule of engagements on his first day in New York, leading the country’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Yesterday, the Prime Minister delivered the keynote address at the opening of UN Climate Week organized by the Climate Group, which brings together leaders from business, government, and civil society to drive meaningful action on pressing global challenges posed by climate change. Just before the start of proceedings, PM Browne engaged in discussions with Simon Stiell, Executive Director of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Browne’s presence heralds Antigua and Barbuda’s preparation to lead unprecedented international attention on the SIDS Global Centre of Excellence, which will be headquartered in the twin-island state. Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Walton Webson joined the Permanent Representative of Tuvalu, Ambassador Tapugao Falefou, and Permanent Representative of the Solomon Islands, Jane Waetara on a panel hosted by the PVBLIC Foundation during its Partnerships Day at UN headquarters.
