The 17th Gathering of the ParlAmericas Parliamentary Network for Gender Equality is taking place September 25-26, at the Federal Senate of Brazil in Brasilia, under the theme “Beijing+30: Promoting Equality in a Changing World”.
The conference marks 30 years since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995, which remains the most comprehensive international framework for achieving gender equality.
During the gathering, parliamentarians will examine progress made toward gender equality while addressing new challenges including disinformation campaigns, anti-rights narratives, and what organizers describe as “the erosion of institutional mechanisms for equality”.
Priority areas for legislative work identified include establishing comprehensive care systems, guaranteeing sexual and reproductive health rights, taking gender-responsive climate action, and developing regulatory frameworks that incorporate gender approaches in digital governance.
