Bridgwater businesses fear Sunday parking charges will drive shoppers away
[]
Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News | News
Somerset County Council have launched a public consultation on their plan to introduce fees for parking on Sundays in areas where it is currently free.
This change would affect residents who use the 200+ council-owned car parks across the county, meaning shoppers in Bridgwater and Highbridge could soon have to pay these charges.
If they were to do that [charge for parking on Sundays], they would shoot themselves in the foot.
The council say the three main objectives of the changes are to standardise parking charges across Somerset, ensure the parking service remains self-funded and support a sustainable transport strategy by encouraging fair use of parking spaces.
Residents can share their views on this proposal through the Somerset County Council’s website before Monday, 20th October 2025.
