RNLI Eastbourne were called to the scene after a report of two individuals on a single paddleboard, half a mile off the coast at Pevensey Bay. RNLI Eastbourne launched a lifeboat and headed out to the paddleboarders. RNLI described the incident as a "false alarm with good intent", saying the informant who had first spotted the paddleboarders did the right thing by calling the coastguard. RNLI Eastbourne said: "On September 19, at 6.20pm, our volunteer crew were paged by HM Coastguard following reports of two persons on a paddleboard half a mile off Pevensey Bay, signalling for help with a torch. "A false alarm with good intent, and the first informant did the right thing by dialling 999 and asking for the coastguard."
