Over the past couple of years, the polo shirt has become something of a fashion staple – propelled by Miu Miu’s cult collections, and carried through by houses like Dries van Noten, Diesel and The Row, who proved it could hold its own well beyond the rugby pitch. While big, baggy rugby-style tops have been a popular outfit choice for a while, I’ve noticed another styling method coming to the fore, especially among the fashion set photographed at Copenhagen, London and New York of late. Slim-fit polos layered under wool coats, bomber jackets and even leather trenches are a subtle swap from the breezy summer styling.
