Kenya has officially designated the Muslim Brotherhood and Hizb-ur-Tahrir as terrorist organizations under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (Cap. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen made the declaration through Legal Notice No. Membership in, support for, or promotion of the two organisations, as well as raising funds for them, are criminalised by the order. Kenya is the latest country, after countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Russia, to formally designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terror group. With this enhanced legal support, security organs now have more authority to act with swiftness, enhancing Kenya’s status as a frontline state against the international war on terror.
