Suffolk County Council's Development and Regulation Committee met in Ipswich on Monday, September 22 and voted unanimously in favour of proposals to begin extracting clay from the Gisleham Brick and Pipeworks site, near Lowestoft. Proposals to amend conditions to the application that was given the go-ahead nine years ago were approved despite traffic and safety fears. The variation of conditions application from Mick George Ltd "to amend the sequence of working" at the Gisleham site will change the phasing order of clay extraction. Planning permission was granted for the extraction from the site in Brickworks Lane in 2016 with the extraction of clay required from three phases in a fixed order. The site operators sought to vary these conditions "in order to dispatch the material from the Gisleham site to the Benacre project in a timely manner".
