OpEdsThe ruling Western capitalist class, since the advent of capitalism and the successful overthrow of the feudalist system, has operated on a binary liberal-fascist axis.
The oligarchy is always divided over questions of strategy and how to best maintain their rule.
Essentially, once the capitalist class became the ruling class, they consistently engaged in both liberal and fascist policies to defeat political and ideological threats to their exploitative system.
First, the Trump administration demonstrates contempt and seeks to weaken international law and international norms abroad and secondly, the Trump administration seeks to ramp up the stage-managed culture war at home.
Understanding the culture war as both an internal ruling class conflict that represents a real competition between various oligarchs, and also as a spectacle promoted and stage-managed by ruling class institutions (including the media, the courts, etc.)
