For most modern 4G LTE panels, this covers a large area in front of the panel, along with a small area behind the panel on either side. This is the most effective way to provide coverage to a large area, as the radiation patterns can be tessellated (fit together) more easily with the least overlap, while also reducing the total number of sites required.
