THE UNITED Nations has issued its starkest warning yet that Israel’s campaign in Gaza has created an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe marked by famine and mass displacement. Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees said: ‘There is no safe place in Gaza. Fourteen members endorsed the statement, with the United States isolated in opposition. This deliberate blockade has driven the territory towards famine, which has already killed at least 313 people, including 119 children. Despite repeated calls for restraint from international bodies, Israel continues to escalate its assault with the backing of the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and other European powers.
