Elizalde thinks that the awareness of such a problem has been growing among Catholics in Latin America, but there’s still a long way to go. “He told us that we must keep having a prophetic voice, like Juan had,” Ortiz said. In his opinion, Juan López was able to “break up with an intimate form of religiousness and took his pastoral work to the streets, movements and organizations.”“That would be the next step for many Catholics,” he declared.
