Kay Solie passed away at the age of 85 on September 1, 2025. Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the United Church in Mapleton, with visitation one hour prior. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements. Born August 29, 1940, to Arnold and Muriel Haberer, Kay was fondly nicknamed the "Beauford Surprise" due to her unexpected arrival. The youngest of three sisters, Kay shared a close bond with Audrey and Joyce, often singing "Three Little Fishes" at family gatherings. A Mapleton High School cheerleader and homecoming queen, she married her high school sweetheart, Stan Solie, 1961. They lived in Long Beach, California before returning to Mapleton. Kay attended Mankato Commercial College, held roles at the Blue Earth County Courthouse, Mapleton schools, Solie Sales, and her gift shop, Thistles and Plaid. A lifelong community volunteer, she served over 40 years as church treasurer and for 65 years held leadership roles in Eastern Star. She served on the local school board, and she co-authored A Postcard History of Mapleton. She helped with fundraising efforts for stained glass windows at the United Church. Kay is remembered for her artistic talents, love of cats, and devotion to family. She is survived by her son, Tim (Lee) Solie of Mapleton; daughter, Susan (David) Larson of Grove Lake; grandchildren, Grant and Hannah Solie, Joshua and Benjamin Larson, and Jessica (Alex) Hubbard; great-grandchildren, Marie and Matilda Hubbard; sisters, Audrey Annis and Joyce Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews; aunt, Lora Lamp, and Kay's cat, Pursey. She was preceded in death by husband, Stan Solie; parents, mother and father-in-law; three brothers-in-law; sister-in-law, and nephew.
