The Shofar in the Classroom—a Small Act of Faith, a Big Step for Civic Belonging
['Josh Tubbs', 'Samuel J. Abrams']
American Enterprise Institute – AEI
My son came home from school one afternoon and asked if he could bring his shofar (the ram’s horn blown on Rosh Hashanah) to class.
It was a simple act, but one filled with meaning: A reminder that faith and identity can find a place within the shared life of a school.
At a time when faith and tradition are often pushed to the margins, this small moment mattered.
The shofar may have been the first object brought in this year, but I hope it won’t be the last.
Too often, families and schools are told to keep faith private, to treat it as something separate from public life.
