Markowitz, who tried to help Weinhaus on appeal, said video evidence convinced him that Weinhaus had not in fact done what police and prosecutors accused him of doing. His biggest problem was not shutting his mouth, irritating and intimidating powerful people, and refusing legal representation during trial. New evidence that came to light has now re-opened interest in the case, with the Midwest Innocence Project taking over from the Missouri Public Defender’s Office.
