In 2016, Russian agencies cooperated with the Presidential campaign of Trump, whose connections with Moscow-linked agents dated to the 1980s. They hacked the e-mails of the Democratic campaign of Hillary Clinton. The Kremlin’s operatives mounted a propaganda and disinformation campaign across the Internet and social media, liaising with Trump advisors such as his campaign manager Paul Manafort. Once in the White House, Trump mounted a years-long campaign to obstruct investigation of the links.
