The Brief Tony Earls Jr. is charged with manslaughter in the death of 9-year-old Arlene Alvarez in 2022. Police say Earls fired at Arlene's family’s vehicle, incorrectly believing a suspect who had just robbed him at an ATM was in it. The trial for Tony Earls Jr. continued in Houston on Monday morning. After the robbery, police say Earls shot at a vehicle he thought the suspect was in. Two years later, new evidence uncovered by an FBI firearms expert compelled prosecutors to re-present the case to a grand jury in 2024.
