Coming from Watch This – an indie company of Sondheim specialists who’ve been attracting serious musical theatre talent, and mounting quality indie productions of his work, since 2013 – you’d expect no less. Four featured vocalists – Vidya Makan, Nick Simpson-Deeks, Johanna Allen, Jacob Rozario – are accompanied by Dr Trevor Jones on baby grand. Jessica Clarke as Jane and Darren Gilshenan as Loyd, in Red Stitch’s claustrophobic play, Job. The 43-year-old American singer-songwriter from Mississippi hasn’t toured Australia in 22 years, performing in Sydney and Brisbane before ending her run in Melbourne.
