Deputies union accuses Sonoma County watchdog of harassment, retaliation, files State Bar complaint
['Marisa Endicott']
The Press Democrat
A labor group representing Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies says the county’s independent law enforcement watchdog harassed and retaliated against deputies while investigating a 2022 fatal shooting and has filed a complaint with the State Bar of California over the conduct of the watchdog’s director and investigator.
He also argued that calling public attention to deputies’ silence was nothing more than public shaming.
On Tuesday, Alden repeated that deputies had every right not to answer, but said it was still important to ask.
The Press Democrat submitted the records request after IOLERO filed an unrelated lawsuit against the Sheriff’s Office for refusing to comply with subpoenas in a whistleblower case.
The clash is the latest in a series of disputes between IOLERO, the Sheriff’s Office, and the deputies’ union since voters approved Measure P five years ago.
