uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has threatened to take action against President Cyril Ramaphosa if he fails to “respond satisfactorily” to a claim that the Presidency interfered in a South African Police Service (SAPS) deployment in favour of mining company Richards Bay Minerals (RBM). He explained that in 2021, he deployed detectives from SAPS provincial headquarters in Durban to investigate killings of RBM executives in Richards Bay. RBM had the privilege of getting a SAPS deployment to serve only them which was funded by the national office,” he claimed. MK Party wants Ramaphosa to accountIn a statement on Monday (22 September), MK Party called on Ramaphosa to “urgently explain the details” of Mkhwanazi’s allegation. It is expected that the commission would question him on the RBM deployment.
