South African Police Service (SAPS) National Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, has testified that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu claimed President Cyril Ramaphosa was “in agreement” with his decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Masemola made the revelation on Tuesday (23 September) at the Madlanga commission of inquiry into criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system.
Masemola reveals Mchunu’s claim about RamaphosaThe National Commissioner said he and senior SAPS officials met Mchunu, who is now on leave of absence, on 27 March 2025 regarding that PKTT’s disbandment.
“Then he said that the President is in agreement that PKTT be disbanded.
He said he would speak to the Minister.”On Monday, Masemola said Ramaphosa subsequently informed him that he had spoken to Mchunu about the matter.
