Many RAG applications use far smaller data sets as input to their vector databases, making poisoning attacks against vector databases economically viable. Thus, attackers can mimic new issue threads by posting issue comments that mimic Ask Astro’s issue Markdown template. Ask Astro’s GitHub issue processing bug demonstrates that a RAG system’s data ingestion process is another potential source of bugs that could affect the quality of the system’s output.
