As an example, I very much enjoyed watching the first five seasons of the television show Dexter – to employ the star scale, they’d sit at a four – but felt there was a sharp decline in quality in the last three seasons, which would earn them a one or two on the star scale. The first five seasons are still good enough that I’d rate Dexter with a positive evaluation, but to my mind, that positive evaluation is not equal to the one I would have given the show had it not had the poor final seasons. The issue boils down to this: all positive ratings are positive, but some positive ratings are more positive than others.
