An “LGBT Free Zone” district in Poland has revoked its local LGBTphobic law. Swietokrzyskie in southern Poland saw a vote in the local assembly to end its LGBT Free status. The zones declarations declare, counter to historic truth, that LGBT lives run counter to the cultural heritage of Poland and European people. Activists have been frustrated by the slow response of European institutions but the resolutions passed eventually have forced Poland’s hand. The similarly-minded government of Hungary will surely be next in the firing line for those determined to ensure safe lives and respect for the basic freedoms of all European citizens.
