US President Donald Trump on Tuesday railed against countries recognising Palestine, accusing them of "giving in to Hamas's ransom demands" and once again rejecting Palestinian statehood in a rambling address to the UN General Assembly. In an hour-long speech laced with grievances against the UN and contradictions on Gaza, Trump called for "immediate peace negotiations" while squarely blaming Hamas for the lack of a deal, claiming the group had rejected several "reasonable offers". "As if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognise a Palestinian state. "We immediately have to negotiate peace, we have to get the hostages back," Trump said at the general assembly. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking immediately after Trump, urged nations to recognise Palestine and end the "genocide in Gaza".
