The partial skeletal remains, discovered on land in Donabate, North Dublin last week, are now being sent for a CT scan by Gardai, as they also await DNA results to formally identify the remains.
It is understood that Gardai are working to verify the validity of the narrative provided by the child's parents.
On Thursday, the front gate of the search site in Donabate was adorned with additional bouquets of flowers, teddy bears and balloons - as the community grapples with the horrendous tragedy.
A poignant tribute note left at the site alongside flowers read: "So sorry Daniel that the world let you down."
