It has now been just over two years since Hun Manet assumed the role of prime minister of Cambodia in August 2023. Hun Manet’s two years in power have witnessed a decline in any semblance of a government functioning in the interests of its people. Under Hun Manet’s rule, political repression and incarcerations have increased, with dozens of political opponents now behind bars and more being arrested each month. Hun Manet took advantage of the conflict to amend Cambodia’s Citizenship Law to allow the government to silence dissent. By then Hun Manet will have been in power for five years.
