Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted citizenship to Tara Reade, a former aide to Joe Biden while he served as a Senator who accused him of sexual misconduct during the 2020 US presidential race. According to her account he put his hand under her skirt and committed sexual acts in the hallway of the US Senate. After moving to Moscow, she voiced opposition to US support for Ukraine and announced she would seek Russian citizenship. In February 2024, American journalist Tucker Carlson traveled to Moscow and interviewed Reade about her decision to remain in Russia. Under Russian law, foreigners seeking citizenship typically must reside in the country for five years.
