In short, NASA is quite confident it's found signs of ancient Martian life. "But just because we saw all these compelling chemical signatures in the data didn't mean we had a potential biosignature. Under budget cuts from the Trump administration, one of the proposed missions to be cut from NASA's schedule is a Mars sample return. In order to test if this truly is evidence of biological life on Mars, we need to get those rocks back home first.
