The U.S. will withdraw 12,000 troops from Germany, shifting forces to other NATO countries in Europe, Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced on Wednesday. This will decrease the U.S. troop presence in Germany from roughly 36,000 to 24,000. In June, Mr. Trump complained that Germany was paying just 1%. A number of these new rotations would deploy troops to the Black Sea region. This move also comes as the U.S. plans to increase its troop presence in Poland, where Mr. Trump has a strong relationship with Polish President Andrzej Duda.
