A study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that vehicles driving with low tire pressure were three times more likely to be involved in a tire-related crash than vehicles with tires properly inflated. It’s important to remember that while partially automated vehicles and vehicles with driver-assist features represent important steps forward for safety, they still need a fully alert and constantly attentive human driver to operate. Fully autonomous vehicles, like Waymo’s, are taking the next step to advance automotive safety technology and have the potential to reduce the 40,000 deaths per year caused by human-driven car crashes.
