Canadian Food Inspection Agency taking control of farm to execute cull orderOwners and caregivers at Universal Ostrich Farm who were asked to leave have been arrested. RCMP served search warrants at the Edgewood farm Monday, Sept. 22 following a Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) cull order. "In disease control cases, such as the one involving the Universal Ostrich Farm in Edgewood, the authority and jurisdiction to make decisions falls under the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. "Unfortunately, the reality is – it’s nearly impossible to update a municipal bylaw, let alone a federal policy, like the one CFIA is using against Universal Ostrich Farm. "The RCMP would like to emphasize that the CFIA is the lead agency in this dispute," BC RCMP said.
