Virginia Rural Health Association receives $4 million grant to address maternal health gaps in Southwest Virginia

The Virginia Rural Health Association is one of three organizations nationwide to receive a $4 million federal grant to expand maternal health care in rural communities. The Rural MOMS program is designed to strengthen rural maternal care by supporting collaborative models, building comprehensive networks and encouraging innovation. The association will also host an annual Maternal Health Forum and a Maternal Health Workshop tailored to rural health clinics. Based in Blacksburg, the Virginia Rural Health Association advocates for the state’s 2.5 million rural residents through education, partnerships and policy work. The association received $1.2 million from HRSA’s Rural Health Care Services Outreach Program, which will help create the Cumberland Plateau Perinatal Health Network.
