For followers of Indian football, the unthinkable had happened: fans of East Bengal and Mohun Bagan joined forces to scuffle with the police and invite arrest. Ever since the ruling Trinamool Congress came to power in 2011, it has been seizing administrative control of the three major clubs [East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, and Mohammedan Sporting]. In fact, the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was proactive in securing a sponsor for East Bengal.
