Nepal has undergone the kind of turmoil we see among youth around the world nowadays. Around 32 children died in the anti-nepotism student demonstrations in Bangladesh in July-August 2024; these Gen Z protesters protested a 30 per cent quota for the 1971 Liberation War fighters’ descendants, seen as a corrupt perpetuation of a privileged lot. I am the last of the Boomers, and for years my cohort has believed that the spirit of revolution was dead among the latest generations—Millennials, Gen Z, and Gen Alpha. Nepal has always had an undercurrent of discontent, understandably, since it is one of the poorest countries in the world. He himself feels a person from Gen Z (below 28 years) should take charge.
