Nagamohandas in November 2024 to conduct a “Comprehensive Survey of Schedule Castes” in Karnataka and to recommend the subclassification ratio among the 101 Dalit castes in Karnataka. What were the hopes of the nomadic Dalit communities from the Nagamohandas Commission? Representatives of the nomadic communities demanded a 3 per cent reservation within the 17 per cent Dalit reservation quota. As the data of the Nagamohandas Commission itself reveals, the nomadic Dalit castes have not benefited from the policy of reservation. Even when data of education, land ownership, and political representation are studied, the nomadic Dalit castes are extremely marginalised.
