In the house where my family is currently displaced, in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood, there is a small garden. Within just a month, the mint and basil began to sprout. We thought that if mint and basil could survive, other plants could too. The pepper plant began to thrive, producing small, yet fresh and flavorful peppers. My family owns beautiful agricultural land in al-Mawasi — the so-called “safe area” — that we used to visit every Friday.
