Late conservative Christian activist Charlie Kirk never lived in Miami-Dade, but part of a state-run roadway there could bear his name by this time next year, thanks to legislation proposed by Miami Republican Rep. Juan Porras.
Posting photos of him and Kirk online, Porras wrote shortly after Kirk was confirmed deceased that he “would not be who (he is) today without” the influential figure’s friendship.
Kirk did not involve himself in local politics while there, several members of the Town Commission told Florida Politics.
HB 33 is the first bill Porras, a sophomore lawmaker, filed for the 2026 Legislative Session.
To effectuate the renaming, the bill would direct the Department of Transportation to “erect suitable markers designating Charlie Kirk Memorial Avenue” along the roadway.
