Nermin Onour was arrested in October 2024 on suspicion of encouraging terrorism, contrary to Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006. During her arrest, officers asked her to provide the PIN to her phone. Onour was subsequently served with a Section 49 Advisory Notice, which informs individuals that they must grant access to a digital device or risk prosecution. When she continued to refuse, officers issued a formal Section 49 Notice. She appeared at the Old Bailey on September 22, where she was sentenced to 18 months in custody for failing to comply with the notice.
