Prachatai reports the Appeals Court overturning an earlier Criminal Court dismissal in the royal motorcade debacle in 2020, and convicted five protesters of trying to block the royal car. At the end of June 2023, the Criminal Court acquitted all five defendants. Prachatai reports that the prosecutor’s appeal resulted in the Appeal Court on 5 September 2025, overturning the Criminal Court’s ruling. Using prosecution witness testimonies and video of the incident, it found that the defendants “knew a royal motorcade was coming and that they intend to block the motorcade. There were no special police units present, which are normally seen during a royal motorcade.
