British Glass has warned that the UK glass packaging industry is "reaching crisis point" due to a high volume of unprocessed UK glass being exported rather than processed and recycled in the UK. Figures from British Glass revealed more than 276,000 tonnes of unprocessed glass is being exported for recycling outside the UK annually and that 39% more was exported in 2022 than the previous year. Craig Robinson, commercial director of UK glass recycling at Sibelco Green Solutions UK, which reprocesses about 250,000 tonnes a year of glass in the UK, argues that the PRN scheme is not working as intended.
