Under the reforms being launched today, workplaces with 10 or more employees will be required to ensure the separation and collection of different materials defined as food waste, residual non-recyclable waste and dry recyclable materials. Mary Creagh, circular economy minister, said simpler recycling was one component of a wider series of reforms for collecting and managing waste materials that was intended to increase recycling rates that she said had “stalled for too long”. Simpler recycling will also tie into aims to implement a national Circular Economy Strategy, with Reed last week outlining several industries where the Government was looking to prioritise support to look at improving reuse and recycling to limit waste.
