New Interior Department documents show that the Trump administration is planning to hold an auction for oil and natural gas drilling leases at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana later this week. According to documents obtained by Politico’s Energy Wire, the Interior Department is expected to provide companies with an opportunity to secure oil and natural gas leases for almost 2,000 acres at the Barksdale Air Force Base on Thursday. The outlet noted that the auction, which will be held by the Bureau of Land Management, will offer companies 10 years to drill inside Barksdale Air Force Base’s forested areas or access oil and gas deposits from locations outside the Air Force base.
