St Edward's Church in Market Place, Romford was built in 1850 on the site of an earlier building. St Edward's was designed by John Johnson who built other churches in the 19th century, and also Leyton Town Hall in 1896. A church spokesperson told the Recorder: "To generations of people in Romford, this has been 'the church in the market place', occupying a unique position both geographically and in the religious life of Romford. "St Edward's Church has been a key part of the community for many years, although we are celebrating 175 years this weekend, we are really proud of the part the church has played in peoples lives.
