Sam Konstas put on a breathtaking display of batting on debut at the MCG, and Ben Curran at Bulawayo, in their respective Boxing Day Test matches. This has now become the quickest 50-plus score recorded by an Australian men's Test opener on debut, going past Wayne Phillips, who made 159 off 246 at a rate of 64.63 in 1983 against Pakistan. Overall, Konstas' effort has taken him to fifth on the all-time list of quickest fifty-plus scores by openers on men's Test debuts, moving past India's Prithvi Shaw, who had recorded a 154-ball 134 against the West Indies in 2018.
