New Practical Test Trials UnderwayFrom 6 May 2025, a three-month trial commenced at 20 driving test centres across the UK. The trial includes:Extended Independent Driving: Candidates may now spend the entire test performing independent driving—either using a sat nav or by following road signs. Reduced Emergency Stop Frequency: The emergency stop is now required in only one out of every seven tests, down from one in three, allowing more focus on other key driving skills. Fewer Required Stops: The number of mandatory stops during the test has been reduced from four to three. Effective from 8 April 2025, learners must give a minimum of 10 full working days' notice to change or cancel a car driving test without losing their fee.
